Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
